The following case study is a real example of how the collaboration between Quality Quest and local physicians brought about a measurable benefit to the overall health and welfare
of our community. The Statin Project identified generic alternatives
and helped bring patients and doctors together to reduce overall costs
for all involved without reducing the level of care or the effectiveness of the
treatment.
The basis for the project was a joint statement by the American College of Cardiology
(ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA)-2001:
"More than a decade of medical research …
Statins prolong lives and prevent heart disease by …
lowering serum cholesterol levels"
By communicating with doctors about the availability of and assisting with the conversion
to recently developed generic Statin substitutes, Quality Quest was able to effectively
coordinate a shift to more affordable medication.
How the Statin Project Benefits Our Community:
Patients' meds are now more affordable and can lead to better outcomes. |
Physicians and Care Teams now have a streamlined process and support tools. |
Health plans now have more affordable pharmacy coverage. |
Central Illinois as a whole has now retained millions of health care dollars
that would have originally
gone to pay for brand name medications. |
Quality Quest Goals for Generics
Our goals going forward are to make sure we generate big ideas from similarly
focused projects. By using measurable benchmarks, we will improve the process
to provide the best care at all times.
